A Pinup’s Guide to Body Confidence Vol 7 Social Media, inspiring not discouraging!
At Deadly is the Female we aim to help women not only look fabulous but to feel beautiful and confident with how they look.
This week’s chapter in our ‘Pinup’s Guide to Body Confidence’ discusses social media and how we should use social media to inspire us and not to discourage ourselves. Deadly Model, Shop Girl and social media gal Scarlett Luxe discusses how to use social media in a positive light and recommends some body confidence activists to follow.
Elizabeth Taylor using the original Social Media!
One of our favourite social media platforms at Deadly is the Female has to be Instagram, as we love to look at pretty pictures! These sorts of social platforms where you share snippets of your life or work are great for interacting with one another and lifting each other up. However, sometimes it’s easy to fall into comparing ourselves to others and putting ourselves down. We’ll look at these pictures and posts and start to question “why don’t I look that fabulous when I’ve just got out of bed” or “why don’t I look as skinny in that same dress”? It’s easy to fall into an unhealthy habit of comparing our real life to social media lives.
Gossiping about Social Media!
I myself have done this, I’ve looked at other girls and been jealous and have then put myself down because I think I’m not as successful or as pretty as them. This isn’t a healthy way to be because at the end of the day, it’s just a picture or words! Some may say well just don’t use social media if it’s a negative aspect of your life. This may work for some people however when it works, I love social media! It allows me to connect with friends, to follow my favourite brands but I needed to find a way of using social media in a positive light. I have completely changed my mind set on social media, I don’t want to follow people just for the sake of following them. I want to be inspired.
I chose to only follow and communicate with people who inspire me. Whether they inspire me through their style, their confidence or they inspire me to get out and be the best version of me. It makes social media a positive place to be involved with, something that you enjoy connecting with instead of something you resent. I’d like to share with you some of my favourite Instagram pages that inspire me….
My goodness this woman is amazing! Ashley Graham is a renowned super model and body positive activist. She has broken through many barriers in the fashion industry with regards to plus size modelling and has been featured in Vogue, Cosmopolitan and was the first plus size model to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine. What I love most about Ashley Graham is how she promotes body image, self-acceptance and female empowerment. She teaches women to love the body they are in and to look after it as it’s the only one we’ve got! I’d highly recommend watching her recent speech for Glamour Magazine at an American High School where she promotes Beauty Beyond Size, it was incredibly uplifting and inspiring >>> Beauty Beyond Size Video
I love and I’m inspired by Megan because she say’s it how it is! She discusses topics on social media like cellulite, mental health, eating disorders, body perception in the media and so much more. Topics that are normally shy’ed away from in real life, let alone on social media but they need to be talked about. Megan is there to tell you hey, it’s okay and she supports all women of all shapes and sizes and helps to lift them up. Megan has conquered anorexia and eating disorders and now shares with other women the importance of mental health and positivity in accepting our bodies “no body is better than another if you have to sacrifice your mental health for it.”
The girls at Deadly is the Female have always been lifelong fans of Cherry Dollface! She’s beautiful inside and out and through vintage hair and makeup styling is “helping girls feel beautiful”. Something so simple but wonderful. Through Cherry’s social media she helps everyone to feel beautiful, she even runs a page called Check out this Babe which is dedicated to “making babes feel awesome”. This page is open to everyone, accepting submissions from boys and gals of all shapes, sizes, ages, colors, genders, etc and she does her best to share everyones submissions. We love Cherry Dollface’s kindness and support to all. Plus she shares lots of amazing hair and makeup tips and tutorials!
