 1. Eyeliner application is different on everyone, what works for  one may not work for another so it is important to work with your eye shape. Those with hooded or small eye lids will always find that their flick will look really long when they close their eyes compared to those who have larger eyelids. So eye shape is very important.

2. When applying look at your eye straight on and place a small dot or line where you would like the flick to end. It is important to remember that we are not symmetrical beings so one eye will always be higher than the other so it’s important to dot on each eye and then draw the line so they look symmetrical in the mirror, even if the line seems slightly thicker on one side.

3. The biggest tip I can give you is to use waterproof eyeliner. They are longer lasting and won’t smudge. I prefer to use gel eyeliner as I find it easier to work with, apply and its more flattering for eyelids that are a little creased (which sadly happens to us all as we age!)

4. Get yourself a good free standing mirror that you can get right up close to, it’s important to have your hands free but also to be able to get a good view of your eye.

5. The only other tip I can give is practice…..the old fable ‘practice makes perfect’ is a boring one but an important one. No one will ever be able to get it right first time, or every time for that matter, there are still days when it takes me a bit longer than usual to get my flicks right! But practice is really important.

Thank you Lolita for sharing with us your trade secrets to perfecting winged eyeliner!
