Deadly is the Female at His Vintage Touch Hair Class!
As soon as His Vintage Touch announced that he was going to be doing a hair class in the UK we knew that we had to go! We were very lucky to get tickets to the sold out class being held at the stunning I Love Lucie Salon in Stockport.
Finally the day came and we were squealing with excitement to meet the amazing His Vintage Touch and learn some of his trade secrets!
Tony Medina is the fabulous guy behind His Vintage Touch and has been styling hair since the young age of 12! Tony is a self taught stylist and used to style his sisters hair. After graduating from beauty school Tony grew to become one of the most renowned vintage hairstylists in the USA and is adored worldwide. His attention to detail to create period correct looks is outstanding and draws in celebrity clientele including the vintage queen that is Dita Von Teese!
“The boy bringing “Old Hollywood” glamour to the modern girl“
Deadly owner Claudia and Deadly model and shop girl Scarlett headed to the cute I Love Lucie salon and took their seats in anticipation of seeing one of the top vintage hairstylists in the world creating some beautiful vintage styles! As soon as Tony came out and introduced himself we all absolutely adored him, his smile was infectious and he was so kind and thankful for us all attending (too sweet!) and boy is he funny! He had us all in fits of laughter! But back to the hair….
Tony began by styling his signature look for clients such as Dita Von Teese, The Pageboy! Tony created this look on the beautiful Ella of Miss Victory Violet and made this style look super easy. One of Tony’s best pieces of advice was to make sure the hair had a strong set because then the curls could be moulded and styled so much easier. This can be a particularly tricky style to create but Tony made it look achievable creating an absolutely flawless Pageboy style!
The second style was one of Deadly’s favourites, The Poodle! This style was made famous by one of Tony’s icons, Betty Grable. As Tony styled away he explained how because he likes to keep hairstyles as traditional as possible he liked the poodle to look fluffy, more true to the style of Betty Grable. Because of it makes the poodle a really easy style to create as you just pin the hair where it needs to be pinned, there is no right or wrong way. He also loved this style as it lasts! This is a style that could be worn for days and styled in many different ways, add a hair flower then add a hair scarf or a hat. This beautiful poodle was modelled by the beautiful Blossom and Buttercups!
The final style was Tony’s signature waves look, a style we were very excited to see created! Again Tony told us how important the set was for creating this signature fabulous look. Tony talked us through his backcombing methods and one of our favourite pieces of advice when it comes to backcombing….”once you’ve finished all your backcombing you should look like Diana Ross, big hair that is sassy and a bit fierce!” So once you had achieved your Diana Ross look it was all about smoothing the hair and gently forming the waves and in no time at all this flawless look was created. Incredible! These classic waves were created on the pretty Carys Hinchcliffe.
We had such a wonderful time attending the His Vintage Touch Hair Class, we learn’t so many hints and tips and were blown away to see Tony style in person! We would like to thank Tony for bringing his hair class to the UK (his first class outside the US!) and for sharing all your top tips for styling, thank you to Esther Tony’s beautiful and fabulous best friend and assistant (we loved Ester’s look!), thank you to Lucie Luella the owner of I Love Lucie Salon for hosting this amazing class in your beautiful salon and for helping bring Tony to the UK!
